asked me recently to do an Avatar: The Last Airbender picture featuring some of the girls from the show. Admittedly I've only seen the show once so I had some research cut out for me. I don't know how successful I am creating the characters. I wasn't so keen on doing this as I was sure I'd get a lot of nit-picking, thankfully I was asked to do a boxing picture. I think they look cute, actually, so in the end it turned out pretty nice.
Avatar: The Last Airbender was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and is owned by Nickelodeon. The dragon background is from a tattoo created by "Tara".
Yeah I only seen it once. It was a show about the group seeing a play that was supposed to be about them, but I guess wasn't accurate. I don't remember anything else other than that, because at the time I was helping a friend network her laptop with another computer. Occasionally I'd look up and watch what was on the TV, which happened to be that show. I had always been mildly interested in seeing the show, but never did. I saw the awful live-action film, and even I could tell they had to be butchering the cartoon. Anyway, I've had a few Avatar requests, but usually turn them down because I don't feel like I know enough about it to do it justice. But on this occasion I said yes as they were boxing, and I didn't have to know anything about the show for that.
Wow! I'm gone for a couple days and I see you're on a huge roll!
First, THANK YOU so very much for making this. It's AMAZING!! The character design is great, and I love the little Asian-inspired elements in Toph's outfit. There's actually a scene in one episode where Toph and Katara get into a fight so it fits right in... earth-bending vs. water-bending... it basically turns into a mud-wrestling match. The show's creators are guys, go figure!
And the dragon background, even though it's made by someone else, using it as a background for the image is just perfect.
Actually, I think the outfits are quite fitting for the characters. Katara is little more than a "peasant" from the Southern Water Tribe, so a simple outfit for her is fine. Whereas Toph's family is one of the richest families in the entire Earth Kingdom, so a highly stylized, highly detailed outfit makes sense too.
For someone who has never seen the show, you did an amazing job capturing the characters. The hardest part in drawing any of the characters, IMO, is Toph's eyes... getting just that right shade of foggy green, and somehow capturing her sightless, almost vacant stare. Great job!! Solely as a MINOR technical critique (and NOT a complaint), Katara's eyes seem bit out of proportion to each other. But that does NOT diminish the awesomeness of this.
Thank you so much. I wasn't sure if I was in the ball park or not. I only have random pictures from the internet to go by and that doesn't really tell you too much. I read a little bit about them, but you know... Thanks again for giving me a detailed comment on how I did. I was really wondering.
