This picture has been a long time coming. Ever since I've drawn the Teen Titans in Young Justice's art style, I've been getting countless requests to do the Young Justice gang in Teen Titan's art style. Before anyone starts on Rocket not being there (I know you're doing it...) I wanted 7 characters as it looks more dynamic. Plus Rocket was more of a guest star in Young Justice season one over being an actual member.
Pictured left from right: Aqualad, Superboy, Kid Flash, Robin, Miss Martian, Artemis, and Zatanna.
These character are all from the animated series Young Justice, which was created by Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti. (Despite its title, it is not a direct adaptation of Peter David, Todd Dezago and Todd Nauck's Young Justice comic series, but rather an adaptation of the entire DC Universe with a focus on young superheroes.) As such I do not own any of these characters. The style is done in Glen Murakami's artstyle.
"With their super powers they unite, YOUNG JUSTICE! Never met a villain that they liked, YOUNG JUSTICE! They've got the bad guys on the run, they never stop 'til the job gets done, 'cause when the world is losing all control, Young Justice Go! 1 2 3 4 go! Young Justice!"
I don't like Superboy that much either. He started off as brash and annoying, then he quickly turned emo, not in appearance but in personality. Always brooding... which is fine for someone like Batman, but for him it came off as "get over yourself." (Talking comics here). The cartoon very loyally followed his comics personality to the letter, which was both good and bad. I hate the guy, hated him with BOTH Cassie's (Sandsmark and Cain of all people!) and M'gann on the show. Connor gets all the girls, while Tim Drake gets.... Stephanie Brown who "dies", yet they don't get back together.
DC hasn't even acknowledged Stephanie exists in the new 52 yet...which is worry some to me...she was interesting but like so many characters (both the Cassies included...also please can they rename Tim...I keep thinking of the restaurant whenever anyone brings him up in conversation) she was often mishandled by the company. It would have been neat to have Cassandra and Stephanie back in the Death of the Family storyline. Maybe re-introduce Stephanie as a hostage of the Joker or something...I mean he was terrorizing everyone why not add a couple of people. I mean Jason Todd should have been doing other things and was wasted anyways as far as the Joker being his murderer and that whole thing. It seems like they're really just shoehorning him in to the Family again. I mean Batman and Red Hood? Why DC?
Anyways back on topic...I'm just bored by Superman. He's not interesting to me. First superhero? Ok sure but so what? He ruined death in comics: [link]
I guess it was either Kaldur or Zatanna in the first season. Artemis was almost a side character in the first season, almost an after thought, Robin was... well kinda annoying (which is painful for me to say as Robin is generally my favorite DC character -Dick and Tim, not Jason and Damian), I was done with "The M'gann and Connor Show" after half way through the season (they got WAY too many episodes), and Wally was Young Justice version of Beast Bitch, constantly hitting on girls. For Invasion I like Cassie Sandsmark/Wonder Girl and Tim Drake/Robin.... BUT I love them anyway, so even though they had next to no scene time I was into them.
Oh cool. I love Aqualad and Zatanna. Aqua was such a cool black superhero. He was a more serious Static Shock. Zatanna's powers were just epic. But I'm with on Robin and the Megan/Conner stuff. I love M'gann, but Conner could go somewhere else. He spent the first season getting his ass kicked. Speedy wasn't that bad. At least he settle on one girl and ended up getting with her.
